Staff Report From Florence CEO
Tuesday, July 31st, 2018
On Wednesday, July 25, McLeod Occupational Health staff and McLeod Orthopaedics Cheraw participated in a tour of the Walmart Distribution Center in Pageland. The teams toured the industry with Human Resources representatives to learn more about their work flow and operations to ensure optimal safety and to minimize the risk of job injuries among their employee population.
The Pageland facility is considered part of Walmart’s Full-Line Grocery distribution system with a square-shaped Dry Grocery building forming one side of the L-shaped complex, and a long rectangular Perishables building forming the other side of the complex. The Dry Grocery buildings typically have three sides dedicated to dock doors to enable maximum throughput and cross dock capacity while the Perishables buildings have receiving and shipping docks on the opposite sides of the complex. The company has also implemented automated material handling systems in most of their facilities. The 830,000 square-foot center is located near the North Carolina/South Carolina border and opened in early 1997.
